TL;DR - Excellent selection of quality fish. Hashi Gawa is a very good "middle-tier" sushi restaurant. They don't serve mediocre sashimi and huge sushi rolls like lower-tier restaurants that cater to the masses. And they don't provide a fine dining omakase experience. What you will get is excellent fish in a casual setting with reasonable prices. We came on a Saturday as soon as they opened to ensure us a table. My wife and I ordered their "Omakase" 10-piece special. Please note that it's not a true omakase experience. It is 10 nigri pieces (sashimi option also available) served all at once. The kind waitress provided all the types of fish, but it was hard to remember the order so I wasn't sure which piece was which towards the end. You will have a selection such as snapper, butterfish, salmon, salmon belly, otoro, chu-toro, ocean trout, scallop, amaebi, etc. We also ordered some extra single pieces to make sure we both had our favorites. One negative was each piece was glazed with a light soy sauce that I would have preferred not to have. The sauce masked the taste of the fish. Next time I'll ask if they can hold the sauce. Overall, I was very happy with our meal. I will go back for sure.

After reading positive reviews, we decided to try it, and our dining experience was enjoyable overall. The tempura was flavorful, although we felt the batter was slightly thicker than anticipated, overshadowing the vegetable flavors. The sashimi was exceptionally fresh and delightful, particularly the uni and ankimo. While the sashimi omakase was satisfactory, it did not stand out. The service provided by our server was excellent, and there is potential to enhance the overall ambiance for an even more enjoyable dining experience.

Excellent value for the price! The portions are great and the flavors are even better. The staff is very nice and patient. I would highly recommend giving this spot a try. Parking is also great.

This sushi place undoubtedly ranks as one of the finest gems in Alameda. Our visit on a Friday night was serendipitous, as we were seated right away, although the line started to lengthen soon after our arrival at 7 PM. Timing, as they say, is everything. One thing that truly sets this place apart is the freshness of their fish. Each piece felt like a testament to their dedication to quality sourcing. It’s that kind of commitment that elevates a sushi experience. But let’s talk about the tempura for a moment – it was nothing short of extraordinary. When the plate arrived at our table, I couldn’t help but marvel at the perfection of the frying technique. It looked, and tasted, unreal – a solid 10/10. The combination of fresh fish and expertly prepared tempura made this dining experience truly exceptional. It’s no wonder the line started to build up as the evening progressed. If you’re seeking top-notch sushi in Alameda, this place should undoubtedly be on your list. Just be sure to arrive early or prepare for a bit of a wait – it’s that good! i

One of the best hidden treasures sushi restaurants on the island of Alameda. At this posting, Omakase nigiri (10 pieces nigiri) for $52 or Sashimi omakase (10 pieces) for $48. Good wine and sake menu. High quality sushi, unlike other sushi restaurants in Alameda. Professional service with details. Price value!

I had a blast chatting with the workers here everyone was super friendly and had great vibes, which made the whole experience even better. The food was really good. Turns out they use a special marinated rice for their sushi, and wow, it makes a big difference. The flavors were spot on, and the fish was incredibly fresh like, melt-in-your-mouth fresh. You can tell they care about quality. 10/10 would absolutely come back again.
